Chippendale (Thomas)

Thomas Chippendale (1718 -1779) was born into a family of cabinetmakers in 1754 and became the first cabinetmaker to publish a book of his designs, titled The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director. But Chippendale was much more than just a cabinetmaker, he was also an interior designer. Chippendale often took on large-scale commissions from aristocratic clients and is considered one of the most outstanding and prolific designers and cabinetmakers of 18th-century England. His designs were highly influential in the 18th century and remain relevant to design to this day.
